We present the fourth coin from the Burning Queen's Beasts series. The Unicorn of Scotland is a symbol of strength and beauty. Mintage only 200 pcs.
The coin has been clad, which is the most exclusive method of coin refinement. The obverse and reverse was covered with black ruthenium, a rare transition metal that became a perfect backdrop for the Unicorn. The Unicorn itself has been decorated with 24-carat gold, thanks to which it shimmers even more spectacularly and flaunts its majesty.
At the coronation of Her Majesty The Queen, ten heraldic beasts stood guard. The Queen’s Beasts, sculpted by James Woodford RA for the coronation ceremony held in Westminster Abbey in 1953, stand six feet tall. The heraldic creatures symbolized the various strands of royal ancestry brought together in a young woman about to be crowned queen. Each proud beast, used as a heraldic badge by generations that went before her, was inspired by the King’s Beasts of Henry VIII that still line the bridge over the moat at his Hampton Court Palace. !
The reverse of the coin depicts the Gilded Unicorn from the famous Coat of Arms of Scotland. All around the reverse, the inscriptions: “UNICORN OF SCOTLAND”, “2OZ” – the weight of the coin, “FINE SILVER 999.9” – the fineness of the Silver and “2018” – the year of issue. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “5 POUNDS” – the face value, “ELIZABETH II” – the name of the Queen and “D·G·REG·F·D” – the latin acronym that stands for: Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensor.
This coin is no longer legal tender because it is an adapted/altered version of an original “legal tender”, enhanced by a private Mint, which is not related in any way to The Royal Mint.
